Starkey Hearing Foundation Assist Children In China

As reported on China Daily.com the Starkey Hearing Foundation is supplying hearing devices to children in need in China:

More than 100,000 Chinese children suffering from hearing disabilities are expected to receive hearing aid products for free thanks to a 10-year philanthropic project. The project was jointly launched by the United States charity Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Beijing-based China Women Major Charity Fund.

The announcement was made jointly by the two organisations at the  “So the World May Hear” launch ceremony and gala which was held in Beijing over the weekend.

The first phase of the program will be implemented in west China’s cities of Xi’an and Chengdu, where more than 6,000 hearing-impaired people will receive custom-made hearing aids.

According to Tao Siliang, chairman of the Audiology Development Foundation of China, it has been the largest hearing-aid donation from overseas to China since 1949

It was reported that Starkey has so far donated 12,000 hearing aid products to about 6,000 people with hearing problems in Shaanxi and Sichuan provinces.

It is estimated that China had about 27.8 million people with hearing disabilities in 2011.
