The King is Dead, Long Live The King

Brian, Why Have You Forsaken Us?

I was really sorry to see my friend Brian Taylor move on from Unitron. I have followed Brian for ten years and have always been impressed with his thought leadership. His outstanding stewardship of the Patient journey during his Amplifon days was what first caught my attention. I followed his writings from then on because I always felt his thoughts on developing business through patient centric care were outstanding.

Meet Your Idol, Prove You’re A Gobshite!

The first time I met him was in Ireland, it was at a conference here and I noticed him at the breakfast counter. I was suitably idiotic acting like a sixteen year old girl first meeting a rock star! I blurted out Hi, you are Brian Taylor (you know, just in case he forgot!), he said, hi you are Geoff Cooling. I am afraid my brain didn’t really catch that and I said I read your stuff all the time, it’s great,  he said, that’s funny I read your stuff all the time, its great.

That was when my brain caught up and I thought whaaaaaaaa???? In anyway, we had a pretty good time talking about the profession and I walked around for about a week after like a smiling idiot. We have talked on a semi regular basis ever since and I was honoured to be one of several people who collaborated on a book with him.

I remember being really surprised by the news that he was leaving Unitron, but hey, everyone has their own drumbeat to dance by. I just wish whoever was beating mine would stop taking bad acid. I remember thinking that whoever takes over has a big set of shoes to fill.

Steve Frickin Who!!!!

Needless to say, I was interested to see Steve Eagon taking up the cudgel at Unitron, disclaimer here, Unitron is a company I have a real soft spot for. I have been following Steve for the last couple of months and was interested in the work he had done before. Hey, I like what he has to say, in fact I like his twist on delivering the customer experience while making comparisons to outside industries or businesses. It actually got me thinking, we sometimes become blinkered, focused on our industry. It is refreshing to get another view and his view is refreshing, so back to the title, the king is dead, long live the king, I will follow the new King’s proclamations with interest. If you haven’t read the articles, you can catch them here
